Access Consultant – Level 2

Architecture & Access’ Melbourne and Brisbane offices are each a seeking proactive, professionally presented Access Consultant with strong communication skills and passion for creating safe and accessible environments.

Location: Melbourne & Brisbane – one position in each location, subject to probation period.

Term: Permanent Full Time, subject to probation period.

Position description

Access Consultants ensure that buildings are designed and constructed in line with the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010, Australian Standards related to safety and access, and the Disability Discrimination Act, considering the access needs of all users particularly those with physical and sensory disabilities.

Access Consultants work in close consultation with company clients including architects, building surveyors and project managers to provide advice and products to meet their needs, legislative requirements and quality standards.

The Access Consultant Level 2 leads multi-disciplinary project teams under the supervision of the Unit Manager, delivering high quality access consulting services across a full range of service types including access audits of new and existing buildings, plan reviews, and professional opinion reports.

The roles require participation in mentorship, training and workforce development programs to build professional skills and assist in the development of less experienced staff.

Salary range: 71,500 – 93,000K including Superannuation.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • From two to five years experience providing a wide range of access consulting services.
  • Demonstrated competent applied knowledge of Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 and Australian Standards related to safety and access, Building Code of Australia, National Construction Code.
  • Demonstrated high-level communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Capability to lead and to work collaboratively as a team.
  • Proficiency in reading architectural plans.
  • Expertise and empathy to achieve positive outcomes
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Capacity to undergo a work health medical examination as required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Accredited Member of Association of Consultants in Access Australia (ACAA).
  • Cert IV or Diploma Access Consulting or equivalent experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in health science, design, building surveying or architecture highly desirable.
