SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) and Changing Places Assessor Certification

Architecture & Access prioritise the ongoing education of its employees and support them in gaining the relevant certifications that enable them to have the most up to date qualifications, allowing them to provide their clients with expertise in Access.

Recently we have had several consultants who have achieved certification as an SDA Assessor and Changing Places Assessor.

Changing Places (Accessible Adult Change Facilities) Assessor – The role of the assessor is to be able to conduct assessments of designs and As-built facilities against the performance requirements detailed in the Changing Places Design Specifications 2020, and to confirm compliance with these. Changing Places (2022, Feb). “Become a Changing Places Assessor Course”. https://changingplaces.org.au/accreditation/changing-places-assessor-courses/.

Changing Places facilities provide more than standard accessible toilets. They also provide a full room coverage hoist, adult size change table, and centrally placed peninsular toilet pan with grabrails either side, as well as an optional hobless shower. They provide an extra level of accessibility to meet the needs of people with a disability and their assistants.

Cathryn Grant is a qualified Senior Access Consultant with Architecture & Access and recently became a certified Changing Places Assessor. ‘I am heartened to be involved in the building of Changing Places Facilities,’ says Cathryn.

‘These facilities provide real opportunities for people with a disability and their families to engage in recreation, play, work, travel and more.’

Architecture & Access will assess any facility against the Changing Places Standard, allowing it to be registered as an accredited Changing Places facility.

We are pleased to announce our consultants who have recently achieved Changing Places Assessor certification:

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) Assessor – From July 2021 it has been mandatory for any SDA to be assessed by an Accredited SDA Assessor in both design stage and at final As-built stage, and for the SDA to be registered with NDIS.

SDA is a range of housing designed for NDIS participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Architecture & Access’ SDA Assessors are qualified to review plans for proposed SDA developments for a wide range of clients, including community housing associations, disability service providers and speculative investors. We provide reassurance to our clients that their project will comply with the relevant SDA Design Guidelines and achieve enhanced liveability and increased community participation.

We are pleased to announce Nicole Levitt – Access Consultant and SDA Team Coordinator has recently achieved SDA Assessor certification:

“Receiving my certification as an Accredited SDA Assessor will enable me to provide the highest level of service to our clients seeking consultation and certification for Specialist Disability Accommodation”, says Nicole.
