Barwon Health Hub

Geelong’s growing northern suburbs now have access to more high-quality health services

Barwon Health Hub was opened in January 2020. The $33 million facility had been constructed to provide state of the art health care services for the growing communities in North Geelong including Corio and Norlane. The facility is located adjacent to the Corio Library, Centenary Hall, and Waterworld Leisure Centre, ensuring it is within easy reach. The facility offers walk in emergency care, medical imaging facilities, child and family services, renal dialysis, pathology and specialty clinics.

Architecture and Access  worked with the Billard Lease Partnership team to ensure the new building provided excellent access for people with disabilities including accessible car parking near the entrance and wide graded paths to the entry. From the red brick entry canopy, people are directed into the building where the central reception and lifts are located. A wide passage along the front of the building links various waiting areas. The warm green carpet and upholstery delineates the seating area from the passage to assists people find their way.

Some areas of the Hub operate 24 hours per day and providing a comfortable, accessible  and secure environment for staff was part of the project brief. Areas for staff are well thought out with separate and private facilities including offices, kitchen and an external terrace on the upper level.

The new Hub is open and servicing the health needs of the local community both now and into the future.
